Chicago O’Hare International Airport: a giant amongst airports!

Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) has been one of the world’s busiest airports since the 1960s. It is currently ranked 6th in the world in terms of passenger traffic, serving just under 80 million passengers in 2017. It boasts more than 200 non-stop destinations, around 50 of which are outside the US. One of these is Paris, home of Air France. From there it is possible to fly off to multiple destinations in Africa, Europe, Asia and the Middle East. The geographical spread of O’Hare’s top destinations is impressive – London, Toronto, Tokyo and Frankfurt are the busiest international routes, while New York, LA and San Francisco top the US list. The airport comprises four terminals, 9 concourses and 191 gates.

An expanded shuttle bus service operates between terminals 1, 2, 3 and 5 and the economy parking lots, during the Airport Transit System’s renovation (2018/2019). The CTA’s Blue line runs 24/7 to terminals 1, 2 and 3 (45 minutes from LaSalle/Congress). Alternatively, the NCS runs from Union Station to O’Hare transfer station in around 32 minutes.
