Raleigh-Durham International Airport: serving record-breaking numbers of passengers!

Raleigh-Durham International Airport, North Carolina’s second major airport, had a record-breaking year for passenger numbers in 2017, with more than 11 million passengers using the facility. Helping this growth are international destinations like London, Paris and Toronto. The route to the French capital saw a huge increase in passenger numbers between 2016 and 2017 (up 41%) and can be reached non-stop from RDU with Delta, or via Atlanta with Delta and/or Air France. Atlanta, the short hop to Charlotte, NC and Newark, NJ are the top 3 domestic destinations and in total, there are over 60 non-stop routes from RDU. Air France flies to over 200 airports from Paris Charles de Gaulle and Paris Orly, including Asian, African and Middle Eastern locations.

If you are on a flight leaving from Raleigh-Durham International Airport’s terminal 2, you may not have noticed that the architectural design was inspired by the Piedmont region’s rolling landscape – an approach known as ‘contextual regionalism’.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport is located off I-40, about 15 miles northwest of downtown Raleigh. You can also reach it from I-540 (exit 2) and Aviation Parkway. Four parking areas are available: Premier (very short walk to terminal), Central (short walk to terminal), Economy 3 and Economy 4 (free shuttle service every 20 minutes).

The GoTriangle 100 bus runs from the Regional Transit Center in Durham to terminal 2 (10 minutes) and on to downtown Raleigh. From downtown’s GoRaleigh Station to terminal 2 it is a 30-minute ride. Buses leave every half hour (hourly on Sundays).
