Dulles International Airport (IAD) and Regan National Airport (DCA) are by far the largest airports in Virginia, and together with Baltimore-Washington International Airport (BWI) in nearby Maryland, the largest serving Washington DC. IAD and DCA served more than 22 and 23 million passengers respectively during 2017 and BWI over 26 millions. Out of the Washington airports, Dulles offers most non-stop routes – over 130, while DCA boasts over 90 direct flights and BWI over 80. Top destinations from IAD are London Heathrow, Frankfurt and Paris Charles de Gaulle. Leading the way for domestic destinations from Dulles are Denver, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Meanwhile, at Ronald Regan Washington National Airport, Atlanta, Chicago-O’Hare and Boston head the domestic leader board, while at BWI, Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando take the top spots. Air France flies non-stop to Paris from IAD, and Delta and Air France both offer a service to Paris Charles de Gaulle from DCA and BWI via Atlanta. Once in Paris, it is easy to connect to Air France’s global network of over 200 destinations in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific region.

If you are driving, Dulles International Airport is accessible from State Route 267 (Dulles Access Road) and State Route 28. Dulles is located 26 miles west of downtown DC. Regan National Airport is 5 miles south of downtown Washington and is accessed from I-395, US-1 or the George Washington Memorial Parkway. Baltimore/Washington Airport is located just off I-195 and is 9 miles south of downtown Baltimore.

As for public transportation, if you are heading to Ronald Regan National Airport, you can take the Blue or Yellow Metrorail lines, respectively a 17 and 14-minute journey from downtown (McPherson Square (Blue) and Gallery Pi-Chinatown (Yellow) stations). Shared-ride shuttle services, TNCs and taxis all operate at DCA.

Baltimore/Washington Airport has a Light Raillink station at the airport itself (44 minutes from North Avenue to BWI), departures every 20 to 30 minutes weekdays, every 30 minutes on weekends. The BWI Rail station is served by both Amtrak and the MARC Penn Line, (13 to 22 minutes from Penn Station and 20 to 40 minutes from Union Station, Washington DC.) A special shuttle bus service runs from BWI Rail Station to the airport itself, which generally takes around 6 minutes. MTA bus services to the airport include the 75 and the 107 (weekdays only) buses. The ICC 201 also runs from the Gaithersburg Park & Ride, usually on an hourly basis, the journey taking up to one hour 23 minutes to the BWI Rail station. Route B30 (Greenbelt-BWI Airport Line) connects the Airport with Greenbelt Metro Station. It takes around 45 minutes (Monday to Friday only). Shuttles, limos, taxis and TNCs all operate to BWI Marshall Airport. Public transit options to Dulles include the Metrorail Silver line (connection with the Silver Line Express Bus at Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station, bus departures every 15 to 20 minutes), Metrobus route 5A from L’Enfant Plaza (55 to 70-minute journey), the 981 and 983 Fairfax Connector bus services (termini at Wiehle-Reston East Metro Station and the Smithsonian National air and space Museum) and intercity bus services. TNCs and taxis also operate at IAD.

In terms of parking, Dulles boasts hourly and daily parking lots, 2 garages (all within walking distance of the terminal), valet parking, an economy lot with a free shuttle service and a cell phone lot. Regan National has 3 terminal garages linked by moving walkway to the terminals, economy (served by shuttle buses) and a cell phone lot. Meanwhile, Baltimore/Washington has hourly and daily garage parking, valet parking, express parking and long-term parking. Shuttles service the daily, express and long-term parking areas.
