Plan your flight from New York to Lisbon

When is the best time to visit Lisbon?

Lisbon has a Mediterranean climate with mild, rainy winters and sunny warm summers. Winters last from November to February – during this time, rains are frequent, and bright, sunny weather gets often interrupted by a drizzle. Day temperatures stay between 10 – 15 degrees Celsius, but fall down to 3 degrees at night. In April, the weather becomes more reliable and rains subside. During summer, from May to early September, rains are rare and temperatures get as high as 30 – 32 degrees Celsius. However, due to the proximity of the ocean, it rarely gets hot. When planning a trip to Lisbon during winter, make sure to check that your accommodation has proper heating.

How to get to the city center from the Lisbon Airport?

The Lisbon Airport, the main gateway to Portugal for international travelers, is located just 7km away from the center of the city. To travel from the airport, you can use one of the convenient public transportation options or get a taxi. Taking subway or a train to the city center would take up to 20 minutes; remember that on buses and trains you might be required to get an extra ticket for bulky luggage.

What are some of the best things to do in Lisbon?

    • Start your Lisbon holiday with a treat – try the flaky pastéis de nata tart with creamy egg-custard filling. Savor it with a quick espresso and take one of lesser-known Portuguese pastries to go.
    • Walk the city's winding, hilly streets and wander through the city's picturesque neighborhoods from the Graça district to Belem. Belem is an old and pretty neighborhood close to the waterfront. Here, visit the Manueline-style Jerónimos Monastery, climb the 16th-century Belém Tower, or visit the MAAT, the recently opened Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology, located in a former factory.
    • Lisbon is a great city for foodies. In its traditional tascas (small restaurants) and tabernas, you will find delicious Portuguese tapas – called here petiscos – and traditional comfort food. In the evening, head to the city's lively Príncipe Real area for a drink in one of the crowded bars. Sip ubiquitous Portwein, a Portuguese specialty, or try a Portuguese craft beer at the Lisboeta pub.
