Athens is a city located right in the heart of the Mediterranean, where the climate is generally pleasant. What formalities need to be taken care of before flying to Athens?
For full peace of mind before you leave, make sure you take care of all necessary formalities far enough in advance. Athens is located in the European Union, so you will need a valid passport to go there. In addition, there are no specific medical requirements other than subscribing to medical insurance for covering any fees incurred by an emergency repatriation.
How to reach the centre of Athens from the airport?
Having taken off from New York (JFK) and after your New York to Athens flight, you will land at Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) international airport. The city centre is then about 20 miles away. There are several options available for getting there:
- If you chose to rent a car, there are lots of different agencies in the airport’s car park (level P5). The staff working there will explain how to drive into the centre.
- If you opt for public transport, there is a metro line taking you directly into the centre. Hop on line 3, travel time is about 30 minutes. You can also choose to travel by bus (line X95), so you can gaze out over the lovely landscapes - but it will take you a little longer: 45 minutes.
- You could also take a taxi - there are always lots available in front of the airport. During the day, it should cost about €35.
