Athens is located in the European Union, so you will need a valid passport to go there. How to reach the centre of Athens from the airport?
Having taken off from New York (JFK) and after your New York to Athens flight, you will land at Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH) international airport. The city centre is then about 20 miles away. There are several options available for getting there:
- If you chose to rent a car, there are lots of different agencies in the airport’s car park (level P5). The staff working there will explain how to drive into the centre.
- If you opt for public transport, there is a metro line taking you directly into the centre. Hop on line 3, travel time is about 30 minutes. You can also choose to travel by bus (line X95), so you can gaze out over the lovely landscapes - but it will take you a little longer: 45 minutes.
- You could also take a taxi - there are always lots available in front of the airport. During the day, it should cost about €35.
