In Berlin, summers are delightfully sunny and warm, while winters can get quite cold, with temperatures falling slightly below zero. Cold and rainy weather starts in November and continues well into March. Early autumn and late spring are perfect for travelling, too, as the weather gets warmer and the skies become brighter.
The Willy Brandt Brandenburg airport has finally opened its doors in 2020, after a multi-year construction process. To get to the city center from the airport, you can either take a taxi that will get you to the center of the city in 35 minutes, or use one of the public transportation options. At the underground level of the airport, is located a train station, where you can get on the train that will take you to the center of the city. Apart from the airport express train that departs every half an hour, you can hop on a regional train. There is also a bus stop at the front of the Arrivals Hall with a number of city buses that can get you to the city. Keep in mind that a journey on a city bus might take up to an hour.
Steeped in history but also modern and dynamic, Berlin is a fascinating destination. Walk the city's streets to discover traces of history and explore the city's bustling art scene.
In Berlin, the legacy of the 20th century is omnipresent – from the remains of the Berlin Wall scattered across the city, to multiple monuments commemorating the tragic events of the national-socialism, to the architecture. Berlin's architecture presents a quirky mix of Socialist buildings, fin-de-siecle styles and modernism. Make sure to see the newly reopened building of the New National Gallery by the visionary architect Mies Van der Rohe.
While you are at it, visit the town's museums, from the Gemäldegalerie at Potsdamer Platz, filled with Renaissance masterpieces, to the Pergamon museum at the city's famous Museum Island with its best-known item – the Ishtar Gate.
Berlin's culinary scene is much more than just sausages and döner (though try those too) – the city is home to a number of budding and sophisticated restaurants, bars with natural wine and coffee shops.
