When is the best time to travel to Budapest?

In Budapest, winters can get quite chilly with temperatures falling down to 4 degrees Celsius. Winters can be cold and sunshine is rare. Between December and February, it might snow. Summer temperatures are high, with July and August being the year's hottest months when temperatures reach up to 34 degrees Celsius. It is still quite warm and sunny in September and early October, and spring begins in the middle of March.

How to get to the center of Budapest from Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport?

You can get to the city center from the airport by taxi, train, or bus. Bus 100E departs every 20 minutes from Terminal 2, taking you to Kalvin tér and Deák Ferenc tér. Normally, it takes about 35 minutes to get to the center, but it might take up to an hour during rush hours. A taxi ride would take about 25 minutes, but also takes longer during rush hours. You can also board a train to Nyugati station. The travel time is 20 minutes, the train departs from Ferihegy railway station, close to the airport.

What are some of the best things to do in Budapest?

  • Visit Budapest's historical attractions. Make sure to go to the stately Buda Castle and see the reconstructed Turkish-era thermal baths in hilly Buda.
  • Across the river, in Pest is where most of the action is. Here you will discover compelling new bars, restaurants and boutiques. Budapest has more Michelin-star restaurants than any country of the former Easter Bloc. Walk across the Inner City, the Jewish Quarter and the Palace District neighborhoods to get a feel of the trendier side of Budapest.
  • Get to know the art scene of Budapest. One of the must-visit destinations is Art + Text, housed in an ornate Art Nouveau building. The gallery displays contemporary artworks by Hungarian and international artists.
  • Go to the Jewish quarter for great food and a snapshot of the majestic Rumbach Synagogue.
