What formalities need to be taken care of before going to Barcelona?
They are not the most pleasant part of preparing your trip, yet they are essential when booking your airline ticket from San Francisco to Barcelona. As an American citizen, you will be asked for a passport valid for the entire duration of your stay before boarding the plane in San Francisco (SFO). For stays shorter than 90 days, you will not need any more than that. For longer stays, please contact the Spanish Embassy to get a visa.
How to reach the centre of Barcelona from the airport?
You will be landing at El Prat airport (BCN) after a long flight from San Francisco to Barcelona. You then have just over 7 miles left before reaching the city centre. To get there easily, you have several options.
- Public transport: Barcelona is well-equipped from that point of view - you can choose between shuttles, buses and trains. There are regular departures (every 15 to 30 minutes more or less).
- Taxis and cars: the advantage with taxis is that there are always some available, immediately and regardless of the time. That can be nice when you have just had a long flight. You could also choose to hire a car directly from the airport - there are lots of rental agencies in Terminal 1.
How to fill 3 days in Barcelona?
You can never get bored in a city like Barcelona. It is an extremely rich destination in terms of culture, history and gastronomy. To help you plan your trip, here is an example of what you could do in 3 days.
- Day 1: visit the historical centre right in the heart of Barcelona, with its Gothic district, Plaça Catalunya and Ramblas
- Day 2: Go and explore the city, starting with the Sagrada Familia, followed by the Eixample and finishing with Park Guell
- Day 3: Discover the outskirts of the city by heading up to Montjuic.
