When is the best time to visit Geneva?

The months from April to October are good for discovering the city of Geneva. The summer months, which are from July and August, are of course the most popular times as it is the warmest, with an average high of 26 °C and low of 14 °C. These are also the months with the least amount of rain. The only downside to visiting in the summer may be the amount of crowd the city attracts. If you want to avoid the big tourist crowds, the shoulder seasons of spring and autumn are also great times to visit Geneva.

How to get from Geneva airport to the city center?

One of the good things about arriving at the Geneva Airport is that it is in proximity to the city center. Located just about 4 km from the center, you can easily reach the central station Gare Cornavin via train from the terminal in only 6 minutes! Aside from the train, there is also the cheaper bus option. Taxis and shuttles are also in abundance at the terminal, and finding one to take you downtown is never a problem.

What are some of the best things to do in the city of Geneva?

Switzerland has four official languages: French, German, Italian, and Rumantsch. Geneva is among the French-speaking cities and French influence abound throughout, but a piece of German and Italian culture can also be felt in this beautiful city surrounded by nature and home to the world’s most important international organizations.

  • Boho vibin’: Explore Geneva’s two creative neighborhoods, Les Grottes and Carouge. Bourgeois-bohemian, or as the French call it “bobo,” lingers in Les Grottes, known for its vintage shops, independent stores, theater, and nightlife spots such as Café des Arts et Métiers and the LGBTQI-friendly Nathan Café. Similarly, the colorful district of Carouge offers the same vibe. Visit its bi-weekly markets, sample the dishes in its trendy restaurants, and drink the night away at its many cool bars and venues such as Le Cheval Blanc and Chat Noir.
  • Geek out: The European Organization for Nuclear Research, which is also known as CERN, is a must-visit for anyone traveling to Geneva. As one of the global centers for nuclear and scientific research, the place offers free guided tours. The place is limited though, especially the underground tour of detectors, so make sure you book your slots in advance.
